A day with fellow #FarmerClusters from the South learning about how Avon Valley Farmer Cluster Waders For Real have been successful in increasing lapwing productivity - habitat management & reducing predators pressure. Also Dr Swan spoke about similar The Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust projects
☀️ The sun was shining and several rare birds paid a visit as a group of farmers, land managers, rangers and ecologists gathered to get inspiration from the success of the GWCT's wader conservation work in the Avon Valley #workingforwildlife Waders For Real
This lapwing was tagged as part of our new Fallow Plot study. It was a retrap, ringed as a chick by Ryan Burrell during his PhD on lapwing back in 2019, on the same plot. The data will help us improve arable nesting lapwing options as part of this Natural England funded study.
The water has FINALLY dropped enough to access our best redshank site, with the redshank champion himself Rupert Brewer! The nests have a 2 inch layer of dry grass in them to keep the eggs nice and dry, what a fantastic species! #conservation
