Excited to share our paper that was just published—unfamiliar birds respond more attentively to the alarm calls of sentinels than non-sentinels. Collaboration with Mark E. Hauber and two amazing field techs (unfortunately no twitter to tag).

Plastics are fueling the climate crisis.

By 2040, up to 19% of global greenhouse gas emissions will stem from plastics.

To meet the goal of 1.5° global temperature rise & to , we need a plastics treaty that reduces plastic production.

The level of humanitarian assistance that has been allowed into Gaza up to this point is completely inadequate.

I reiterate my call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire & for unimpeded access to be granted, consistently, safely & to scale.

This has been one of the major projects of the first year of my PhD. Really happy that it’s out— I had a wonderful team that I got to work with, documenting over a hundred years of this behavior.

Working on this project with everyone was an absolute delight. Really happy to see it published— and thank you again to all my colleagues who made the trek out into the cold with me to get data during the winter months.

Our planet has just endured the hottest summer on record.

Climate breakdown has begun.

We can still avoid the worst of climate chaos. We don’t have a moment to lose.

There's an immense danger when smart people like academics and researchers are afraid to talk, lest they be sued by the richest man in the world, and actual white supremacists feel more emboldened than ever by leaders and money to strategize and attack minorities openly.

It’s official: my NSF CAREER grant was funded! I’ve got funding for five years of exciting research on sexual dimorphism in flight muscle size and its functional consequences in birds. I got the unofficial word while on vacation, so got to celebrate with my family & champagne.

Scotus just ruled that ~ 50% of wetlands and ~ 18% of all stream miles won't be protected and so can be destroyed without consequence. We have a choice - do we want to try to share the earth with the other species around us? By this ruling no - they are losing fast.

Absolutely no reason for the Biden admin to do this. It is indefensible and embarrassing.

The admin can still walk this back, and they should. It’s a disgrace
