I was asked recently for a brief reading list of books on #BlackTudors, the African presence in Early Modern England & its wider #BlackBritishHistory context, so I thought I'd share it here. Obviously not complete, but hopefully a useful starting point if you want to read more...

Everyone who listen to my presentation for #TMHI @TMHistoryIcons #senecacpd I mentioned 'The Microhistory Lens' blog. This is where Andrew Sweet & I have begun writing about all things teaching local history. Here's the blogs which go into more depth on what I talked about: /1

Sarah Hartsmith (@sehartsmith) 's Twitter Profile Photo

In our first blog, 'Whatever happened to local history?' we discuss the reasons why local history has lost its place in our time-constrained curriculums and why this needs changing! #tmhi #senecacpd themicrohistorylens.wordpress.com/2020/06/03/wha

And in this blog we talk about 'time-thickened places' and the value of using a particular building in illustrating a much bigger historical picture. #tmhi #senecacpd themicrohistorylens.wordpress.com/2020/06/10/tim

We have also started the Southern History Hub where in the future we will be uniting #historyteacher in the South of England in discussing and sharing resources on local history. Please join for future happenings! #tmhi #senecacpd /4

Also, Andrew Sweet & I would love to see any examples of you incorporating microhistories into your schemes of work for September. We'd love to share on the blog, so if you fancy being part of a guest post on wwww.themicrohistorylens.wordpress.com Get in touch! #tmhi #senecacpd

A great reminder that most women campaigned for the Vote in their locality and within the community. It is these ordinary women & men who are still hidden from public view. Another reason why we need to place local history front and centre /2 Historical Assoc Mapping Women's Suffrage

Sarah Hartsmith (@sehartsmith) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The Mapping Women's Suffrage project also is asking for people to submit modern photos of where these suffrage supporters lived. This will enable people to take ‘suffrage walks’ to visit these time-thickened places in their local area #themicrohistorylens Historical Assoc /3

Sarah Hartsmith (@sehartsmith) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The map also allows us to consider local, regional & national ‘suffrage society geographies’. Within an area, you can take the microhistory perspective to see where some areas that are more rural/urban may have support for different societies Mapping Women's Suffrage Historical Assoc /4

This is a project where people need to get involved to mapping these individuals. Will be such an amazing resource! Fab webinar, thank you Mapping Women's Suffrage Historical Assoc mappingwomenssuffrage.org.uk
