In 1934, Herne Bay Council purchased a 48-seat battery-electric tramcar & converted the old tram into a control trailer for Β£987.
Return tickets were 3d.

In August 1937, wheel chocks holding the trailer at the pierhead were dislodged by a gale & the trailer ran the pier length.

bowling alley opened Southend Pier & Railway in 1962, replacing the pavilion burnt down in 1959. It was one of the UK's first American-style bowling centres and had a fab pyramid roof with great views from the alleys and roof terrace
