This is 'choices and obligations in modern life' very elegantly summarised in 2 minutes. Kant's Pflicht und Neigung, without the Kant.

🧵Although much of the focus of this pamphlet ucl.ac.uk/policy-lab/new… has inevitably been on the proposed replacement of the Foreign Office, there is a radical thought buried within the text worthy of examination, namely that the UK needs to rethink the way it sees itself. 1/7

This is a good long read. Trivial as it is, as a marker of significance, I felt a pang of empathy with William Wragg MP when I saw the hero figure on his office wall.

This is entirely sound. There is a grotesque irony in ACE complaining that opera companies should put on more new work, but at the same time attract more new audiences. You can do both, but not at the same time with less money. TL, DR: Respect the classics, man.

This is going to be a REALLY weird and specific brag, but here goes : Did you know that I AM THE REASON that Mary Beard (mary beard) was able to see her own minifigure in Sydney’s Lego Pompeii last Friday? Let me explain. 🧵1/6

I often repost AA Gill’s Brexit essay on Twitter, because there’s so much of it that still rings true.

It was Lee Anderson’s wail this morning about “wanting his country back” which brought Gill’s words back to the front of my mind.

I never thought I would read the most honest assessment of in the Telegraph!

But here it is in all its glory, you just have to read the article to believe it but here’s a taster:

“It was up to Brexit’s political cheerleaders to make something out of Britain’s decision…

This is a treasure. Iolanta is sung by Galina Oleinichenko (wife of the director, Vladimir Gorikker) and acted by Natalya Rudnaya.

I’ve posted about this before but it’s super cool and deserves way more recognition - this bench at Scarborough station is the longest railway bench in the world! It’s 139m long and was constructed by William Bell in 1883, on behalf of North Eastern Railway 🖤

Enescu is such an all-encompassing figure, yet so little known outside Romania, that it was a pleasure to discuss him with Cristian Macelaru, director Enescu Festival, and look forward to the 2024 Competition Bachtrack
