Epic sea crossing alert! 🌊 KP has reached Ireland but rather than following a land-based route, he left northern Spain and set off across the Bay of Biscay then continued his flight over the sea. 😮 We’re pleased to say he’s made it! 🙌 National Parks and Wildlife Service
Great to see some classic spring migrants on Fair Isle Bird Obs over the last couple of days with Pied Flycatchers and Ring Ouzels on the cliffs a stunning female Hawfinch in the traps and some cracking male Redstarts in the crofts adding some colour ! Class birding!!
Some lovely wildlife in Woodland Trust Cymru’s Ceunant Llennyrch woods today. Also another bloody balloon. She may be your Little Princess but the balloon you bought her could kill wildlife & farm animals. Please stop buying this 🤬🤬🤬rubbish

Sharing the magic of migration.
On this day in 2022 we stood at Eyrarbakki harbour in #Iceland watching tired #Whimbrel arrive in off the sea, having flown directly from West Africa.
I wrote about the experience here:

Just watching this stunning Barn Owl with Mandy Myers from our lounge window, a real treat given how much scarcer views like this have become!!
A lovely few hours with Mandy Myers wandering at Hoe Rough Norfolk Wildlife Trust. The first Green-winged Orchids up, a superb swarm of tiny Green Longhorn moths, a superb Blue Shieldbug + this very smart Cranefly - Euphylidorea dispar. A nice surprise was 4 Ravens low overhead!
When you see a flock of migrating #waders #shorebirds , do you wonder how the birds know where to go or who travels with whom?
Some insights from tracking:

Doing ecological studies during a biodiversity crisis is difficult. In 2002 I began studying Marsh Tits in an ancient woodland to see how a functioning population worked. After 10 yrs I realised I was now documenting their slide towards local extinction:
