Irish Cuckoo update - Cuach Torc and KP have been in Ivory Coast 🇨🇮 for the last few weeks building up for their big jump over Sahara. The Stock Dove must be one of the prettiest columbids. I only get this species coming into my garden at this time of year, for only a few weeks. This one was originally ringed on the 21st April 2023.

Long-tailed Tit nests are amazing structures. Shaped into a dome and made from Lichen and spiders webs, then filled with around 2,000 feathers. This one is being monitored for the #NestRecordScheme . More info at: tinyurl.com/nrsmonitoring

This year’s 1st visit to Cape Clear Bird Obs started with 2 Carrion Crow yesterday and 2 Hawfinch today. But highlight was first day of BTO Rock Dove RAS finding ‘BH’. He was originally ringed as adult in June 2016 and at 7 years 9 months 27 days is now the oldest ever recorded! EURING

I was told of a Mute Swan Blarney Castle & Gardens which had a ring on its leg and on Saturday Róisín Towe managed to read the ring. It has only moved 7km, but was ringed by John O'Halloran at The Lough nearly 21 years ago, making it the new Irish longevity record BTO BirdWatch Ireland EURING

2024 is on course to be an exceptional #Siskin year for Britian & Ireland. Only into March and already my Suffolk garden ringing totals are the 2nd highest ever! Majority appear to be wintering or passage migrants with very few local breeding birds back yet! BirdTrack

Myself and Michał Jezierski, with the help of other BTO bird ringers, have set up a study of Mandarin movements around the UK 🇬🇧. Birds will be ringed at various sites across the country, starting this year. Please keep an eye out for green colour rings 😁!

Ringing details received of a Nightingale caught at Abberton 🇬🇧 in May 2023 - ringed at Tanji, The Gambia 🇬🇲 in January 2020. 4 years, 8 migrations. Ace! 👌
