🧐 This is interesting...Labour on Rwanda:

Last week: 'We are not going to do the Rwanda scheme'

Now: 'We can’t just come in, tear it up, and have nothing to put in its place'

Shock as someone working for UK Universities International defends their continuing to harvest student fees from overseas and doesn't address any of Neil O'Brien MP's points about 'Deliveroo visas'...

In our new report for Onward, A Conservative Economy, Nick Timothy and I chart a new path for conservative economic thinking.

Key to our argument is that Britain should seek to reindustrialise - to improve its productivity, security & balance between its regions...🧵

Fantastic by my colleague Nick Timothy on our new report for Onward, A Conservative Economy.
Conservatives must be the party of workers, families & the nation. We must support expanding manufacturing & UK exports, reduce reliance on immigration & build houses & infrastructure.

Nobody serious denies we have a massive job reforming welfare again after Covid. The green paper today from Mel Stride is necessary and welcome. thetimes.co.uk/article/sickne…

🌳 From immigration to reindustrialisation, we need full-spectrum rethink of the UK economy to fix our growth and productivity puzzles.

Diagnosis by tylercowen of UK growth problem

NIMBYs? 15%. Energy costs? 10%.

50% - 'The UK economy not specializing in making things that either foreigners or its own citizens want to buy'

More on this from Onward in a new paper out tomorrow

Britain should not accept ANY returned asylum seekers from the EU until the EU accepts the return of those who have travelled here from there. telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/…

Just a straightforward lie. The Conservatives have guaranteed the triple lock, and there is no £46 billion black hole. This is projection politics. And he's supposed to be one of the better ones. x.com/wesstreeting/s…

Written for The Times and The Sunday Times on our new project with Robert Jenrick & Neil O'Brien MP - how to build an immigration system that's more selective, higher quality and less open to abuse. (Key suggestion: cap both overall numbers and individual migration routes.) thetimes.co.uk/article/camero…

Of course immigration policies are discriminatory. If we don’t discriminate between citizen and non-citizen we have no border and it’s the end of our society.

That a case like this can even be brought shows the problem with our equality laws. theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/a…
