I see the UK government has, under pressure finally had to reveal the cost of sending a refugee to Rwanda. £1.8 million per person. For that same cost of ONE individual an entire refugee processing centre could be built and staffed in France solving the boats problem overnight.

This was explicitly in the 2019 Tory manifesto. Rwanda or a Rwanda-equivalent plan was not.

Labour could have whipped their peers to kill the Rwanda bill in the HoL (Labour + other opposition + cross-bench = easily enough to win) without breaking convention.

They chose not to.

Unequivocal condemnation from both the United Nations and the Council of Europe. Looks like it’s all going splendidly for globally respected statesman and master politician Rishi Sunak.
