So, here’s a story about how I ludicrously spent much of my weekend.

It involves the perils of quick, rapid technology.

And, more importantly, it involves donuts 🍩

Recently, I undertook a mini-pupillage to examine the logistical challenges I will encounter during my pupillage. Whilst the court staff were lovely and supportive, the accessibility within the courtroom was appalling for wheelchair users.

Today in Court there were two people sat in the public gallery all day.

At the end of the day, the Judge spoke to them about how important public justice was. He then asked them what brought them to the public gallery today.

Their response?

Their TV was broke.

* The courts have long taken into account personal background for sentence.

* This isn’t new. It’s codified.

* It includes experience of loss, neglect, abuse & insecure housing.

* Those are almost always relevant.

* Even if you can’t see it from your vantage point.

A real journalist might have pointed out that the ECHR was not why the Supreme Court ruled against the government.
