Historically, they were a vital water source & they provided fertile floodplains, transport corridors etc. The resulting urbanisation has meant that many of our rivers have been transformed beyond recognition, & are no longer able to provide those initial benefits. The FoL has embarked on a number of projects to reintroduce locally significant indigenous species back to the Liesbeek. Palmiet is renowned for its practical attributes rather that aesthetics. The plant plays an important ecological role in preventing erosion #LiesbeekLearning
