Very grateful to Air Marshal Ian Gale MBE Air Marshal Ian Gale, Major General Andrew Roe CB - Chief Executive of Defence Academy & Commodore Pete Olive OBE Peter Olive for joining the RAF APPG yesterday evening for a fascinating discussion on the work of UK Strategic Command

1/3 Joan Hughes MBE was 5’3 limit for ATA was 5’4. She put newspapers in her shoes to give her the extra height in her ATA medical.

Age 15 she was the youngest female pilot in the UK.

Age 17 she gained her Class A pilot license. At 21 she was a flying instructor for the ATA.

Thanks @rafhalton Chilterns Gliding Club for a check out and some solos today. A club full of Service and civilian, mainly under 25s!
