Not having to defend the entire community when someone from the group commits violence is a privilege not afforded to marginalized people. Resist the urge to flatten the narrative. Let complexities be complex, and remember we get to be human, just like everyone else.

When a survivor speaks up, they are speaking from an experience that has altered their nervous system. They are speaking about events that changed the lens on how they see the world and those in it. They are speaking from a place of deep vulnerability and pain. Believe them.
