Really happy to have this feature in The Times and The Sunday Times today – it's about a subject we should all be less afraid of talking about. (1/2)

THREAD. A number of people have responded to this tweet that there is nothing wrong with a company a) making a profit and b) that supermarket margins are in any case low. Both of these things are true. But the supermarket sector is unlike any other. A bit of background. 1/

The arts in Wales (and the UK) are no longer on the brink of total collapse - we are in the state of total collapse. The UK faces the immediate threat of being a nation with no art and no artists. We need our leaders to start shouting NOW.

So. Who defines this? The arts cannot afford to be wholly apolitical, and any attempt to qualify what is defined as political will surely involve some bias, intentional or otherwise. The former is, of course, literal censorship. That’s never worked out so well in the long run.

Rebecca Frecknall's interview in The Stage has prompted me to break out a thread I have sat on for a while. It breaks down what I think is the biggest obstacle in theatre but the least openly discussed... Pay

So here is the THEATRE PAY MATHS THREAD 🧵👇

Thinking about how the Arts Council stood by & watched the D'Oyly Carte bleed out, then coolly pulled the plug on Kent Opera & later tried to whack Birmingham Opera Company on an accounting technicality. And yet we act like its policy towards ENO is somehow out of character.

Reminder: the Rwanda policy was announced the day after the Sue Gray report came out.

It was only ever intended give the Daily Mail a one-day headline that didn't have to mention Partygate. It wasn't meant to actually HAPPEN. And it will never work.

It is mad that the Tories >

I love Dvořák, but is there any other composer so eye-wateringly inconsistent in detail? Handfuls of differences between editions from page to page in ties, slurs, dynamics, articulations, notes… plenty from early copyists, but plenty from the composer!
