A sensible and welcome take on things from Scottish Prison Service whose frustration is palpable. An abnormally high prison population doesn't help prisoners, prison staff or victims.

Prison populations continue to grow and remand is still an issue, with around 2,000 people awaiting trial. Remand is an extremely costly, uncertain and stressful time for families, with many spending on average £300 a month to support someone.

My School MU School of Law & Criminology has adopted a restorative practices policy - build community, meet students' needs, offer restorative processes for interpersonal issues - the first dept. in a European uni to do so (as far as I know)!
