The BBC has found more than 90 private tutors in the UK have been convicted of sexual offences involving children over the past 20 years. On #BBCBreakfast the children’s commissioner for England called for reform of the system as it doesn't require people offering private

This loophole is deeply concerning. Anyone working 1on1 with a child as a tutor should have have a DBS criminal record check, as the absolute bare minimum. Whatever the setting, children need to be kept safe - it has to be a safeguarding priority. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Thank you to Youth Sport Trust & their Youth Board members, Saif, Amani & Joel for sharing what they want the Government to focus on to support children's participation in sport to support their physical & mental wellbeing & to develop skills useful for their futures. #100Voices

More than 500 children a day are being referred to mental health services for anxiety—double pr-pandemic rates. Anxiety was the top referral reason in my last mental health report. Childhood is short; we must act now to stop kids reaching crisis point. childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/blog/childrens…

We're over half way through the first 100 days of the new Government and it's been a busy couple of months - ensuring children's voices are heard, visiting vulnerable groups and bringing out my new analysis on the strip searching of children. Here are my highlights...

Children are aware of the impact their mental wellbeing has on their wider lives, in #TheBigAmbition they told me "the Government need to deal with the appalling mental health crisis in the UK" & earlier interventions are needed to prevent them reaching crisis point. #100Voices

It is shocking to see so many children waiting long periods after being referred to mental health services. In #TheBigAmbition one Girl, 16 told me: "Currently I am out of school and have been waiting for emergency mental health services for six months." #100Voices

In #TheBigAmbition, children were very conscious that physical & mental health lay the foundation for overall wellbeing & set them up for future success. My Ambassadors, Ben, Maya & Evie share what they think the Government should focus on to support children's health. #100Voices

More than 11,000 children went missing from education within just 1 school year, despite having previously been on roll. For the 1st time, my analysis gives a clear picture of these children's stories & the urgent need to trace them. Read my new report 👇 childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/resource/child…

Great to speak on today's BBC Woman's Hour panel and hear powerful accounts from 17yo Katie and mothers about the struggles accessing SEND support. Every child should have access to the support they need to engage and thrive at school. Listen back ⬇️ bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

✨A big thank you to everyone who took part in our Woman’s Hour #SEND special live from the BBC Radio Theatre - and to all of you listening at home who also got in touch. We covered so much - but don't worry - the conversation will continue tomorrow! 🎧⬇️

New analysis suggests SEN children make up over one in five of nearly 3,000 children not enrolled in school or being suitably educated elsewhere. Commissioner Dame Rachel de Souza called it a "scandal" and noted these children "are not on anybody's radar."

‘Children need their needs met. When their needs are met, we see them thrive’ In our special Woman’s Hour from the BBC Radio Theatre, Nuala McGovern looked at support for kids with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) in England & the mums trying to access it for them ⬇️

Thank you First News for sharing the videos from your speech writing competition for #100Voices. Frida talks about neurodiverse young people - their needs, how the education system can support them to thrive and the different skills sets children and young people can offer.

Thank you to Abi, a The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Youth Ambassador, for sharing her thoughts on what the Government should change to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities - including forming more school places, increasing awareness & career support. #100Voices

Great to visit Ark Walworth Academy this lunchtime & hear from pupils what's important to them, they all praised their school breakfasts and lunches which positively impact their day and would like all children to have access to free meals, great extracurricular activities & support.
