𝐫𝐞𝐏𝐫𝐨-𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 Totally mad. We have been campaigning to change it for 10 years - expecting a vote in Parliament soon. Predictably the anti abortion crowd want women to continue under the threat of imprisonment - when even Texas exempts them from the law.

𝐫𝐞𝐏𝐫𝐨-𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 Women have been covered by anti-abortion statute in England and Wales since 1803. You can get abortion via two doctors, but buy pills on the Internet and you're committing a crime that carries a life sentence - still. Last year a woman was jailed for 28 months under the 1861 law.

I think I'm right in saying if this comes into force, it would be the first law in force in the modern USA which targets the woman herself. And keeping women criminalised is exactly what the anti-abortion groups are campaigning for in the UK. The same people doing the same harm.

👉 Compare and constrast: The 1864 abortion law just resurrected by the Arizona Supreme Court staffed by 8 Republican-nominated judges, and the 1861 law which underpins abortion in England and Wales. This is how women end up being thrown in jail for ending their own pregnancies.
