Gully Foyle #UKTrade It's not meant to be a winning argument. It's a correction your dismissal of such processes as 'mythical'. On your point: EU systems aim to ensure goods sold in SM meet its safety standards. It's for UK to ensure goods sold in its own market meet its own standards (sovereignty!)

This is not quite the mic drop the 🤡 Gully Foyle #UKTrade thinks it to be.

EU & Ireland would be quiet happy for UK to be a partner to its burden sharing EU Migration Pact. If anything Heaton-Harris has now opened door to that possibility.

The UK now finds itself outside the EU along with the EFTA countries. Although the UK hasn’t shown interest in as close a relationship with the EU as EFTA, Labour has indicated they would be willing to align in certain areas. Can the UK draw lessons from EFTA’s experience? (1/x)

À core part of Labour's 'make Brexit work' agenda is SPS. Yet there is a flaw at the core of this.

To see it, let's look at the Irish Sugar company.

No 5 on Gully's bogus Brexit benefits list: 'EU Plastc Waste Levy', is similar to UK's own levy and based on an endorsement by 175 member states of the United Nations who are committed to reducing plastic waste. It's a waste benefit but no Brexit benefit.

No 4 on Gully's bogus Brexit benefits list: 'Removed NTB's', completely ignores NTB's introduced to nearly half our global trade (with EU), caused by Brexit. That's a net negative to our GDP.

There are numerous reports on post-Brexit NTB's. Here's one:

The continuing obsession with a UK-US trade deal that remains extremely unlikely unless the UK changes food standards, which I don't think any government will do, and which would be unlikely to deliver major economic results. thetimes.co.uk/article/trade-…

Lord Frost:
a) falsely claims that the Northern Ireland protocol was 'temporary' - not only untrue legally, but also it was presented as an 'oven ready deal'
b) gives the false impression that EU will move hundreds of thousands around (in fact it's 30k/year Commission proposal)

Of the many flaws in this, the most egregious is the claim that the NI Protocol was a 'temporary fix'. And if 'too many Conservatives seem to see Brexit more as an embarrassing secret', well, there's an obvious reason for that.

Imagine if Michel Barnier spent his time trashing the outcomes of the WA/NIP and TCA agreements he helped negotiate. Imagine the headlines in UK's Brexit press.

Some reflections on this and other aspects of UK-EU relations. First, it seems clear that the Commission did this not because they wanted to start a negotiation with the UK but because they didn't want member states negotiating their own, bilateral deals 1/6

Roland Smith Oh dear….nobody told Lynn it was the U.K. who originally requested such a scheme with individual EU countries (trying again unsuccessfully for bilateral agms). Then the EU got involved….all set out below!

Apparently Boris Johnson is writing about trade. The Prime Minister who talked tough then caved with the EU and Australia is once again showing his lack of understanding by stirring the pot on the UK changing good standards.

Thankfully paywalled. dailymail.co.uk/debate/article…

Again, the reasons Post-Brexit UK didn't become 'Singapore on Steroids' is that:

a) Nobody knows what the fuck that means;
b) To the extent they can sort of guess, they don't like it.

Also, absolutely no one thinks 2024 Britain is like Norway. Have she like... been to Norway?

Ireland became a republic 75 years ago today.

Its name didnt change that day, or on any day since: it’s still Ireland.

But de-throning the king, declaring itself a republic and installing a president was a milestone in Irish history.

Happy anniversary as a republic, Ireland!🇮🇪

This 🤡 Gully Foyle #UKTrade thinks CPTPP is a G7 member. The G7 is a cooperative geopolitical forum, its members are:
🇺🇸 🇬🇧 🇩🇪 🇫🇷 🇮🇹 🇯🇵 🇨🇦 & 🇪🇺

There’s some seriously f**king deluded and misinformed Brexiteers out there 🤦‍♂️

If you’re curious about the editorial rigour applied to Truss’s book, this quote was dubiously attributed to Rothschild in a 1935 by Gertrude Coogan, a Rothschild-obsessed antisemite who claimed “the World is ruled by the International Money Masters”
