Today marks 40 years since WPC Yvonne Fletcher was shot and killed on duty as she policed a protest in St James’s Square.

This morning Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley visited the scene and laid a wreath in Yvonne’s memory.

Today was my first run in six weeks, so my weekly total is only 2 miles. I’m at 232 miles for the year, so ‘just’ 768 to go!

New suicide figures for the final 3m of 2023 are published by Office for National Statistics (ONS) today, giving us rates for last year as a whole.

It is not good news.

The suicide rate rose 6% from 2022, the first substantial rise since 2018.

The rate was 11.1 per 100,000 people, highest figure since 1999.

Yesterday the Daily Mail claimed National Trust has 'secretly' stopped using butter in its scones in a 'virtue-signalling betrayal' of heritage. It now transpires the very same Daily Mail glowingly published our scone recipe in 2018 MADE WITH MARGARINE!!!

A recent study by the Resolution Foundation states it has driven up the pay of millions of Britain’s lowest earners by £6,000 a year, making it the single most successful economic policy in a generation.
