There we have it. Just 14% of people day they are 'likely' to swim in the sea this summer because of sewage.

Defra UK of course in an attempt to exonerate themselves from having any responsibility whatsoever blame the water companies.

Cheap move, but they never were classy.

'The industry likes to put the responsibility on the individual... But we’d like to point out that it’s the brands, it’s their choice for the kinds of packaging [they use] and for embracing this throwaway model of delivering their goods.'

If the government can't introduce a simple deposit return scheme, how can they expect us to believe they will be able to tackle the climate and biodiversity crisis?

Enough of fake promises and distant targets. It's time for action and accountability.

It is crazy that the government keeps publishing these positive studies about beavers but won't sign off Natural England's licence plan or publish a species reintroduction plan. What's the point? gov.uk/government/new…

Still no Land Use Framework (England). This would be surreal if it was not so stupid. Politics of land use are of paramount importance (climate, water, food, biodivrsity, access). UK Government ducks it having promised it for a long time. What is land for? committees.parliament.uk/publications/4…

Researchers examined 135 loggerhead turtles off northern Cyprus. 40%+ contained “macroplastics” (pieces larger than 5mm).

The study found a total of 492 macroplastic pieces, including 67 inside one turtle.

Here we go - illustrators, digital artists and photographers' work drying up with every instance of a publisher deciding to generate an image for a story with AI.

All the talk of rewilding, species reintroduction and halting biodiversity decline... useless if the waterways are all poisoned. This is truly depressing theguardian.com/environment/20…

Today’s annual The Rivers Trust State of The Rivers report makes desperate reading.

Not a single waterway in England or NI is in “good overall health”. Not one.

To adapt WH Auden, “a culture is no better than its rivers.”
