When the #TPLF seized power in 1991 & redrew internal borders into formal ethnic‑based territories, institutionalizing ethnicity by ethnicizing land and resources, the leaders/supporters didn’t realize they were setting in motion a dangerous, self‑defeating dynamic.1/3 #Ethiopia

Now sadly they already paid the price. Elite polarization, ongoing violence and insecurity, social fragmentation, and state erosion, with war, identity‑targeted atrocities, and mass displacement, hitting political elites and, most of all, the communities they once mobilized 2/3.

What is sad is that today ethnic politicians,their protégés & followers still haven’t learned the lesson. They keep recycling identity as a political strategy, risking the same cycles of polarization,violence & collapse that have already consumed leaders & communities alike 1/3.
