This week Merle Walters spoke to an engaged group of Carleton J-School students in my History of Black Canadian Journalism class about making history.For 29 yrs. (1984-2013) Merle worked alongside her late husband Ewart to produce The Spectrum, Ottawa’s trailblazing Black newspaper.

Ewart Walters, editor/publisher, of Ottawa’s Black newspaper The Spectrum, had two Carleton J-School degrees. In 1965 he was editor of the student paper “The Carleton.” Despite excelling at what was considered Canada’s top J-School, he never found a job in mainstream CDN journalism.

After 4,500 seniors died in LTCs during Covid, Doug said he’d put an “iron ring” of protection around seniors. Instead of an “iron ring,” Ford introduced legislation to PREVENT families of those seniors from suing LTC operators for negligence. Don’t forget⬇️
