Yesterday I attended the kick-off meeting for Mayor Eric Adams's #FutureofWorkers Task Force. The FWTF is spearheaded by abbyjosigal of the NYC Mayor's Office of Talent & Workforce Development. The task force is composed of leaders from NYC’s private, nonprofit, & philanthropic sectors.

Darren Walker: we had a period of worker mobility in '60's-'80's, but policies changed turning the arrow in the wrong direction creating the growing inequality we have today.
At today's event, Darren Walker reminded us that not too long ago there was a business ethic of employee ownership, in various forms, enabling workers, retirees & their families to live comfortably AND that benefited employers via retention & productivity.
Damien Dwin Lafayette Square also noted two key levers to improve employee stability & mobility: (1) "Shrink the playing field" - i.e., invest capital in places where there's need; and (2) reduce the benefits gap for labor in those same disadvantaged areas.
During the pre-conference session on Tuesday, ReniseWalker, @NathanLeeWB, and Erin Young will be speaking with Manny Lamarre U.S. Department of Labor, Joe Barela Colorado Department of Labor and Employment & Jessica Valand Results for America about advancing #jobquality and equity.
