New version of Stellarium released! I have been contributed code to most of the new AstroCalc/Eclipses tool which can be used to predict solar and lunar eclipses for thousands of years. I tried hard to close any known bugs, if you found one, pls let us know via Stellarium GitHub

Alert! Comet C/2021 O3 (PANSTARRS) is expected to appear in STEREO-A images during 2022 April 27 - May 2. Images are available at stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov/beacon/beacon_…, low resolution images are normally appear first, high resolution images will follow a few days later.

National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) captured Saturn and Mars in the morning of 2022 April 5. Take a closer look, you can see Saturn's ring and Mars's south polar ice cap.

C/2021 O3 (PANSTARRS) with a long (debris?) tail as seen from COR2 coronagraph onboard the STEREO-A spacecraft between April 27-28, 2022 (brightness/contrast enhanced from original images by NASA/NRL/STEREO)

Many comet watchers may not aware that comet 45P/Honda–Mrkos–Pajdusakova is already observed in this apparition. The comet first detected in SOHO LASCO C2 on April 16 (by Zhijian Xu) and later appeared in LASCO C3 (April 21-28) with a much brighter than expected magnitude

Remains of C/2021 O3 (PANSTARRS) in sequence of images taken by HI1-A camera on May 1, 2022 (11:28-23:28 UT) - this is the region at the upper left corner of the field. (STEREO/SECCHI/NRL/NASA)

A bright Kreutz sungrazing comet is approaching the Sun. The comet made me think of C/2011 N3 that visible in EUV SDO images ~ 2011 July 5-6. It may peak around the same level of brightness or a little brighter? I expect the comet to enter C2 ~ 2 UT of July 13, perihelion ~8 UT

Good question, but sadly I think not. The so-called 'SDO' comet (almost exactly 11yrs ago!) had just a tad more meat on its bones than the new one. I doubt there was anything tangible left today by the time this one reached the SDO field of view. 😢 x.com/chrisoutofspac…

I was delighted to have e-mail conversations with him about C/2021 O3 a few months ago. My condolences to Don's family.

Via Worachate this is what the year ahead looks like for LASCO C2 & C3. Seven passages from Mercury, and one each from the other planets (excluding Earth, of course). Also comet 96P in January (will be exciting!!), 2P/Encke in October, + a couple of small periodic SOHO comets.

So far FOUR tiny fragments of 96P have been reported by citizen scientists! We've seen 96P fragments in the past, but only 1 or 2 at a time. And the timing of these fragments doesn't match previous fragments, so maybe these are new fragments, or fragments of fragments, or...🤷‍♂️🤯

The Thai Astronomical Society received reports of moving object in the western sky over Thailand in the evening of 2023 March 15 UTC+7. We suspect that it is related to Long March 11 rocket carrying Shiyan 19 satellite. (Credit: Panatda Mansatid)
