Today was our first Choose Your Own Adventure time! A collection of students stayed in the Meet for a dance party, while others chose a wellness activity that made them feel healthy, happy + safe. Thanks for participating! We will keep practicing self-care and healthy habits 👏

Open Letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau from Gimaa (Chief) R. Stacey Laforme.

To honour the 215 children whose lives were taken at the former Kamloops residential school and all Indigenous children who never made it home, the survivors, and their families, I have asked that the Peace Tower flag and flags on all federal buildings be flown at half-mast.

In acknowledgment of the horrific discovery of the remains of 215 children at the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School in BC, and in respect of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation, #HDSB flags will be lowered for 9 days: 1 hr. for each child found.

After reading the land acknowledgment this morning, we had a moment of silence in memory of these children and in honour of all the families and communities who are grieving this news. But with a moment of silence needs to come action - unlearning and change are the steps forward

Today marks the beginning of Indigenous History Month. During this month and always, how are educators; -Centering Indigenous voices? -Teaching from an anti-colonial stance? -Connecting to Indigenous history & current realities? -Affirming Indigenous identities and futures?

The #HDSB celebrates #PrideMonth in June. We are committed to providing a respectful environment where all students, staff and community members feel welcome.

REMINDER: Friday, June 4 is a PA Day for elementary schools only. #HDSB elementary schools will be closed to students (K-Gr. 8). This includes elementary students learning virtually/remotely and students currently attending school in-person in specialized programs.

Yesterday we had another Choose Your Own adventure time - wellness or Scattergories game. Both were fun!

Tomorrow morning, our class has a chance to share our fantasy / fairy tale short stories with a grade 1 class from Abbey Lane. We are excited to have a new audience for our creativity! Virtual Elementary East

We're deeply saddened to hear of the hate-motivated & targeted attack on a Muslim family in London, Ontario this past weekend. Islamophobia has no place in our community. Our hearts are with the family & others impacted by this senseless tragedy. We stand in solidarity with NCCM

June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day. For many First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, this day will be one of reflection and honouring of the children who were killed in Residential Schools. (1/3)

It is important for us to continue to engage in learning the true history, rights, current realities and the contributions of Indigenous peoples this month, throughout the school year, and beyond.  Take action. Listen to, learn from, and amplify Indigenous voices. (2/3)
