The future of photography: - Gather new data from multiple sensors - Extrapolate and guess details - Create an internal model of the environment - Render images using the model, not the sensors The most important thing to notice: - This is also how your brain renders images

9/ If anyone can sweep up some of the sand that landed 5 miles away and send it to me, I will pay postage and will return the sample after testing along with some small thank you token (a patch?). I want to measure density, sizes, and drag forces on the particles. DMs are open!🙏

'Finally tried Louis Pereira's Audiopen, a GPT wrapper for transcribing & structuring voice notes. 1st test: I recited "Jabberwocky", a poem from the Alice in Wonderland books. Many of the words are made-up, so it's a challenging interpretation test, but Audiopen did pretty well.

Interested in Starship stage-zero damage? Here's an important thread by one of the few people in the world who can be called an expert in how rocket plumes can damage launch/landing areas.

I just uploaded this to the arxiv. “The Damage to Lunar Orbiting Spacecraft Caused by the Ejecta of Lunar Landers.” tl;dr — The risk of damage to orbiting spacecraft is serious in LLO, not so bad in NRHO. We need to be proactive to manage it. arxiv.org/abs/2305.12234

Fellow cloud architects: please read this thread about a security issue, and confess that the root cause is us, not the user who didn't know about features we added to "fix" the complexity. Too many systems are needlessly complicated and over-punish small mistakes. That's on us.

Layoffs do NOT have to be a surprise lock-out. I was laid off last week, but @Matmacorp agreed to let me stay a few weeks to work on HIPAA forms. I'd probably make *more* money by moving on, but I'm the only one left trained in HIPAA. Layoffs happen. Friends still help friends.

2/ …I have a new request for help. Does anybody remember seeing the brown dust cloud that drifted north toward Port Isabel from the launch site? We need to estimate it’s altitude. Cloud height is hard to judge, but…

Sad news: John Walker, best known as the founder of Autodesk, has died. We followed each other on X, and I've long hoped to chat with him more often... "someday"... Details are on Scanalyst, a site he founded which was inspired by a science fiction book: scanalyst.fourmilab.ch/t/john-walker-…

Fifteen years on this platform. I joined because game devs and entrepreneurs were here, and that tied in nicely to my long-term interest in AI and nanotech. I'm staying cuz the AI devs are here, and AI isn't a long-term subject anymore. Nanotech still lags tho. #MyXAnniversary

I just got access to Grok 2.0, and asked it to have a chat with the latest incarnation of ChatGPT-4o. Here are the results: chatgpt.com/share/44f5df1f… TLDR: Grok wants to make a "blockbuster buddy movie". ChatGPT agrees, and wants to play the straight man. #GROK #GROK2 #chatgpt4

Grok 2 is doing a great job of understanding humor, puns, and made-up words. During our chat about Gray code (a non-standard way to calculate with binary numbers), I used the word "grayvolution" to advocate a gray-code revolution. Grok understood the joke and even one-upped it.

I propose a new standard test image for AI research. When making a video from a still image, use the public domain photograph of Einstein sticking out his tongue. This example output is from Grok Imagine. Your move, Midjourney/ OpenAI/ Luma/ Veo3/ Runway/ and others.
