There is a video going around social media at the moment that has many people scratching their heads in disbelief. It’s a video of a Flashing Tilefish, Hoplolatilus chlupatyi, rapidly changing colours in the blink of an eye. youtu.be/BnuBvBB1v_k

Something very weird goes on in mating assemblies of the White-barred Acraea butterfly - males and females swap roles. Why? And what can it tell us about a secret force of Nature shaping whole populations of insects? #nature #insects #butterflies #zoology thewildepisode.libsyn.com/white-barred-a…

Caecilians are probably my favourite amphibians. Yellow is probably my favourite colour. So ... the extremely yellow, extremely cool São Tomé Caecilian! #nature #wildlife #amphibians thewildepisode.libsyn.com/so-tom-caecili…

The Mediterranean Monk Seal has had almost everything thrown at it - by us and by Nature - and survived, just, in part by changing its own behaviour. At some point, probably in the last century or two, it went into hiding. #nature #wildlife #seals thewildepisode.libsyn.com/mediterranean-…

The tentacled snake. A snake with tentacles! What's not to like? The best bit, though, is how those tentacles contribute to underwater prey capture behaviour of remarkable, subtle complexity and sophistication. #zoology #wildlife #snakes #herpetology thewildepisode.libsyn.com/tentacled-snak…

The first global temperature data is in for the full month of September. This month was, in my professional opinion as a climate scientist – absolutely gobsmackingly bananas. JRA-55 beat the prior monthly record by over 0.5C, and was around 1.8C warmer than preindutrial levels.

The most exhilarating wildlife experience I’ve spectated. My mind is beyond blown. Strongly considering adding Jaguar to the list of diving mammals I’d like to study after seeing this apnoea 🤔🤔🤔 🐆🐆🐆 Cristín🐢

For those kind enough to ask - and everyone else! - Wild Episode will be back next week. With an episode about the most ecologically significant animal I've ever covered, as it happens.

Just to say, since Bluesky is now free and open to all, I do have an account there - a general account rather than podcast-specific, but I will probably put the odd bit of Wild Episode-related stuff there now and again.

A while back, Twitter/X disabled automatic posting of podcast episodes. Awesome. Just for the sake of completeness, here come links to recent episodes. (I know it's biased against links too, but what can you do?) First, Antarctic Krill : Maximum Swarm thewildepisode.com/2023/11/01/ant…
