Imagine if our city had a 3,775% increase in the education budget. Or the housing agency's budget. Or funding for mental health care. Had to fight to keep libraries open, our schools have been defunded, we can't get HPD to enforce the law, but 3,775% increase for NYPD overtime.

Universal private school vouchers could cost KY up to $1.19 billion a year. That money is likely to be taken from public schools. But let’s say KY somehow found new money for education. Vouchers are not the best use for it. Here are 7 better ways to invest in kids and schools.

PragerU is a propaganda mill claiming - slavery was a justified “compromise” - slavery didn’t cause the Civil War - there’s no link b/w oil & climate change - Columbus is a hero, not an enslaver - New Deal prolonged the Depression - America was founded a Christian nation

Kentucky students have strong feelings about Amendment 2. They've written in newspapers across the state, from major dailies to high school papers, about why they oppose spending public money on private schools. Here is a sampling. #VoteNoOn2 1/

“They’re not going to stop” just because voters said to do so. I talked to ProPublica —which as usual gets the stakes—about the voucher lobby’s loss in all 3 states where vouchers were on the direct ballot👇 propublica.org/article/school…

The argument against transparency from for-profit charter schools—like those in MI—is “schools will close!” There’s no evidence that happens. But what does happen is when the numbers don’t work for the business they close anyway—leaving kids to scramble. cbsnews.com/detroit/news/r…

In the Phoenix metro area, ProPublica found that the poorer the ZIP code, the fewer school vouchers are being used. One reason? Only 6 of the county’s 200+ private schools are in areas where families earn less than 50% of the county’s median income: propub.li/48Krz8B
