he just stands there. not saying anything for a few seconds. “ . . . now what? ”

“ — what? ” he’s joking. surely. “ what do you mean? ”

nick hobbles over the door, using crutches - he seems to have broken his foot. opening the door, smiling softly. “ — hey, ryan. come in. ”

he’s not leaving. obviously. “ — i, god, em. this is serious? ”

“ hey y- I CAN’T BE THERE GOD JUST HELP ME OUT?? ”

“ it’s nothing, come. sit with me. ” making his way back to the couch.

“ oh, em — ” he said softly, opening his arms to offer her a hug.
