I want to thank Senator Chris Murphy and the bipartisan group for their gun safety proposal. It does not do everything that I think is needed, but it reflects important steps in the right direction. With bipartisan support, there are no excuses for delay. Let’s get this done.

Today is a step forward For The Children, as the Senate has reached bipartisan agreement on gun violence prevention for the first time in three decades. While more is needed, this package will take steps to save lives.

Importantly, the Senate has also advanced a House-passed measure to combat straw purchases, to keep firearms out of the hands of those who cannot legally purchase them themselves.

The Rhode Island Senate has passed ban on hIgh capacity magazines (HCM) on a 25-to-11 vote. The bill previously passed in the House. The bill now heads to Governor Dan McKee desk for his signature where it will become law. #RIPolitics
