As a civilian, Linda Pascal has been a crime scene technician for the United States Virgin Islands Police Department for 15 years. She brought her civilian-acquired skills with her when she enlisted in the VI National Guard, where I found her teaching fellow Soldiers at a mock crime scene. (1/3)

"As a civilian technician, it helped me a lot when I went to the Military Police investigator school," U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Pascal told me. Joining the National Guard was something she'd always wanted to do, & she finally headed to Basic Combat Training at 31. (2/3)

Today marks the 17th anniversary of the passing of Lt. Col. David C. Canegata III and Sgt. 1st Class Floyd Lake who died in Baghdad on Jan. 20, 2007, in a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crash. We will never forget.
