Sports Roles: Coach-coach the team Player-play the game Referee-officiate the game Spectator-watch the game & cheer for your team Parents, please take a step back; let the coach do his/her job. Your kids won’t play forever, so enjoy these moments, be proud, but know your role.

Bless all the coaches who hold kids accountable for grades, conduct & behavior. Never doubt that choosing discipline over a win is the right thing. It matters. That example says that regardless of how good a player is, he/she will be held to a higher standard. That’s powerful!

Players: Academics matter. Without good grades, you can’t be college ready. With a GPA lower than 3.0 fewer than 50% of colleges are able to recruit you. If you have aspirations of playing in college, don’t be lazy. Do the work; achieve in the classroom. Academics come first.

Players: During practice, selfless teammates can put aside their friendship & compete against each other because they care about team success! Competition is key! Practice the way you play! It’s not personal; it’s necessary preparation. Without competition, there’s no success!

Coaching & leading are two different things. A title doesn’t make you a leader. One of the first steps in becoming a great leader, is recognizing that your own energy & attitude affects the attitude of those you wish to lead. People get excited when things inspire them!

Players: You don't realize that your body language is like a neon sign. It screams everything you’re not saying. Primarily, it shows your attitude, intention & ability to handle adversity. Keep positive body language, especially when things are hard. It shows you can overcome!

Teach kids how to lose. Losing doesn’t mean quitting, pouting, blaming or tantrums. It doesn’t mean “feel good” trophies. It means you have some work to do. It means coming back tomorrow & trying again. You can’t be a great winner without knowing how to lose & learning from it!
