When “isolate so you don’t die” becomes “died because they were isolated”, it is time to step back and consider the dynamic implications of policy. Oh and if death is the metric indicating the severity of COVID, it should also be the relative severity ranking metric for problems

Kyle Field Zachary Shahan They should put the country of origin and of refining on gas pumps. I can't see why we need to know where our T-shirts are made, but not where our fossil fuels are from. Couldn't be that hard to do: my local coffee shop manages to list the blends of the day. #WheresMyFuelFrom?

The American Psychological Association once invited William James to give a talk on the first 50 years of psychology research. He simply said: “People by and large become what they think of themselves.” Then, he left.

Capturing methane from the decay of our insatiable appetite (& waste) of stuff is renewable? I'm being tongue in cheek. I support capturing fugitive emissions, increasing efficiency, developing new tech and lowering global carbon emissions.

It’s amazing how much ambient noise in cities is just cars and leaf blowers and I don’t know if people really appreciate yet how much that is going to change with electrification.

High oil prices historically equate to periods when it cost > 12 hrs @ Canada's minimum wage in order to buy 1 bbl of Brent. "Cheap" crude aligned with < 4 hrs. May 2021 is ~6 hrs. Getting back to mean in my view. To me, "high" oil prices today start > $100/bbl CAD. #EFT #OOTT🚀

I own 12 oil stocks in my energy fund and 6 of them are trading at exactly 2.2x my forecasted cashflow in '22 at $70WTI. Such tight dispersion in trading multiples shows what an inefficient market it is...so few specialists left to roll up their sleeves and hunt for opportunities

We're moving full steam ahead on 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030. One of the new technologies in achieving this goal—a first-of-its-kind, next-generation geothermal project with Fervo—will provide an “always-on” carbon-free resource for our data centers ↓ cloud.google.com/blog/products/…

We are all so excited by net zero in 2050 & 1.5°C that it sometimes feels like the job is half done. Well, don't forget, Stated Policies lead to flat emissions, net zero 𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒅𝒈𝒆𝒔 lead to a ~40% reduction by 2050, & we are not remotely near achieving net zero in 2050...

You don't need enough courage for the entire journey. You only need courage for a few seconds to overcome self-doubt before you take the next step.

This also doesn’t mean we should be giving a blank check to every wild idea just because it’s theoretical upside is large. But if it’s technically feasible, and backed up by rigorous science, let’s go. Never underestimate what motivated technical people can accomplish.
