A Merlin tonight in Barton le willows. Also a pair of Hobby’s at the weekend … very exciting for a farmer trying to increase the wildlife yields 😃. York Birding

Pleasing to see a small flock of 55 farmland birds already using the wild bird mix at New Meadow at North Duffield - inc. 30 Goldfinch and 25 Linnets which is an encouraging start for late August, with plenty more seed ready for many other finches and buntings over the winter 🐦

Kingfishers are being reported regularly around the reserve at present - particularly at Pool Hide on Wheldrake Ings, where birds have been showing well infront of the hide on the rails provided by our team of volunteers York Birding

Interesting recovery of a Sedge Warbler caught in the #LDV at Wheldrake Ings on 13/08 - originally ringed two days earlier in East Sussex, travelling 350 km north in this short space of time (& the second that we have caught doing this apparent 'reverse migration' in autumn) 🐦

Plenty of chiffchaff in Knapton. At least 10 in this one tree. Willow warb and swallow still around, with a single whitethroat. The hunt for a patch flycatcher continues. York Birding
