BREAKING - #Rosebank oilfield just given go-ahead - the greatest act of environmental vandalism in my lifetime, causing emissions equal to 28 lowest income countries, busting #climate targets & doing nothing for energy security since vast majority is for export #climatecriminals

This is morally obscene. It won’t improve energy security or lower bills - but it will shatter our climate commitments & demolish global leadership. Govt is complicit in this climate crime - as is Labour unless they pledge to do all possible to revoke it.

Unthinkable 20 years ago when I started to work on energy: The world may finally be hitting peak coal, as wind, solar and hydro continue to grow and will overtake coal generation perhaps already in 2026. Graphic by Orennia

Will AI and data centres be main drivers of future electricity demand? No. Biggest drivers will be electrification of industry, transport & buildings. When powered by clean electricity, the benefits are huge: vastly higher efficiency, dramatically lower emissions & cleaner air.
