We stood with Sen. Mike Gianaris, Families For Safe Streets, Transportation Alternatives, and the family of Jael Zhinin at the intersection of 46th St and 47th Ave where a truck driver tragically killed Jael in June. 14 children, including Jael, have been killed in crashes this year; that is unacceptable. (1/2)
Today we stood behind the grieving mother of Jael Zhinin, 16, who was killed by a truck driver on the last day of school to call for the swift implementation of #SammysLaw, #universaldaylighting, scramble crosswalks & #schoolstreets to keep NYC Public Schools students safe.
It was like pulling teeth to fight for this simple, lifesaving street improvement but we got it done! Kathy Park Price is a f*cking legend! And shoutout to the entire Transportation Alternatives team, Jabari Brisport, biking groups, and countless community members who helped us get here 💚
Thrilled to be a sponsor of Transportation Alternatives's #PedestrianProm. Looking forward to a fun night & recognizing the great volunteers & activists who have been working to make our streets safer. Congratulations to all of you! Please stop by to say hi. I'm right next to the e-bikes raffle.
11% of new riders on fare-free buses used the bus instead of a car or taxi they used prior. Making buses free gets people out of cars and into public transit. Sen. Mike Gianaris and I write in The Nation about the successes of the fare-free bus pilot. thenation.com/article/societ…
🎉😭Led by Chi Ossé w/Antonio Reynoso, Council Member Crystal Hudson Lincoln Restler Phara Souffrant Forrest Jabari Brisport Shaquana for Brooklyn, and in partnership w/Better Bedford Avenue coalition, 43+ Bedford Av. businesses and 2,818+ neighbors who signed the petition, we won a safer Bedford Av. for everyone!
I've been to far too many of these press conferences and stood with too many grieving families. We know exactly how to prevent these tragedies. Thank you too Families For Safe Streets , Council Member Julie Won and Sen. Mike Gianaris for supporting the family and fighting to make our streets safer.
Visited NYC DOT's new 1st Ave #bikenyc express route ("the UNGA Tunnel") and grabbed a few quick clips to further explain to all how it works. For those wondering you can stay local above on 1st Ave or go express from 41st to 49th. Fun! Streetsblog New York Open Plans Bike New York
