Excellent explanatory border check 🧵 from Dmitry Grozoubinski which also explains why you can’t “cherry pick” the shared regulatory and enforcement environment of the single market.

This tweet blames me personally for the internment of Catholics in Northern Ireland 1971-75. I was a child at that time. I had no vote and no voice.

This is the EXACT SAME ARGUMENT as Israelis use to justify killing Gazan children. Gazan children did not vote for Hamas.

The smarter way is the most humane & respectful way, let people work, process their claim properly, give people integration support and let people thrive. Stop punishing people for migrating. Saves us a fortune in direct costs, earns us a fortune in tax revenue.

In my latest piece for the FT, I argue that there are two very different trade-related conflicts involving China that are too often conflated. On the one had is the problem of excess capacity in certain industries.
