Thames Water has a £14 billion debt pile: they took our money and gave it to their shareholders while accumulating debt & spewing sewage into our rivers and our coastline. They can't even fix their leaky system. Now they want to hike prices further. Total incompetence and greed.

#ThamesWater Any company whose base product drops out of the sky for free but still gets into massive debt is guilty of gross mismanagement.

Just to put #ThamesWater issue into perspective;

Since 1991, it’s accrued a debt of £54billion.
In the same time, they’ve paid out £57billion to their shareholders.

I’m not paying to bail out the fat cat Water Company bosses with their million pound bonuses

Today I was granted an Urgent Question on the situation at #ThamesWater and financial resilience of the water industry.

But where was the Secretary of State? She’s missing in action.

Water companies had no debt when privatised. Since then, they've

- borrowed £53Bn 🤯, &

- paid £72Bn in dividends 🤬

This is a huge scandal. If the taxpayer ends up taking on the debt heavy balance sheet of Thames Water 💧 we will, in effect, be paying the shareholders and the obscenely over paid executives. It demonstrates that Ofwat is not fit for purpose and Defra UK ministers are useless.
