This new book is full of bangers: “In most years, road safety saps more productive years of life than any other disease, including cancer and heart disease combined.”

This is mostly because motordom, including traffic engineering, specializes in killing young, healthy people.

this is a phenomenal thread on how “the process” doesn’t punish you to convert multiplexes to single family homes but does punish you if you try to go the other way

Three people were killed while traveling on our streets this week - on 4th Ave S, Aurora Ave N, and Boren Ave. Absolutely heartbreaking, but not surprising. Why? All these tragedies happened on multilane arterials identified as “high injury network” streets by SDOT.

This is the most compelling case I’ve seen against the idea that smartphones are causing a mental health epidemic among teens.

Apparently Obamacare included a recommended annual screening of teen girls for depression and HHS also mandated a change in how hospitals code injuries.

still can't believe someone did this to my neighborhood.

View is looking north from N Mississippi area after ODOT destroyed hundreds of homes to build I-5.

My 90 second Public Comment

IBR defrauded 8 cities & agencies to disqualify a tunnel alternative and gain approval of a bridge (LPA).
Also defrauded Federal DOT of $600 million, asking for billions more.

After years of claiming that on-demand transit or 'microtransit' is a 'reinvention' of transit, a leading microtransit company now says it can just be a way to transition toward future fixed route service. 1/

Pretty sure that the long car commutes people get pushed into because of the housing shortages in major job centers create more pollution than the existence of floorspace in those locations.

it's almost like the mayor's transportation levy is a car levy

Food in Europe's major cities is better because restaurants there are surrounded by dozens of competitors rather than 8,000 parking spaces.

The thing about California Texas renewables comparisons is that Texas consumes vastly more energy than California and energy use is growing quickly. California is closer to a European model where they actually use sticks to discourage fossil fuel use, Texas is more like China

Tearing down a few houses to build a bigger apartment building is a perfectly normal way for cities to add more housing, and we should stop acting like it's always some sort of tragedy.

What did you think adding density near transit looked like?

6 homes ➡️ 46 homes

90% of the 'European food fixed me' or 'European food made me loose 10lbs' posts is literally just people from car dependent suburbs enjoying walkable cities and not noticing

Impressive greenwashing from the @ibrprogram team.

The best way to make this bridge accessible and friendly to people not driving is not to spend unnecessary billions of dollars building a bridge so wide that it has as many lanes as possible.

city planning in a nutshell: 93% of seattle's 'zoned capacity' for new homes is on just 24% of the city's developable land because 63% of it is reserved for virtually zero growth (4.2%). just maddening. this is entirely why zoning was invented
