Weird how I've never seen a hedge fund at a community meeting heckling people over zoning reform, talking about zoning as a way to protect property values, screaming about the dangers of renters, etc

Traffic engineers: Unelected bureaucrats who regularly make value judgements about public investments in public space, against the wishes of the public...

Great example of how "feasibility studies" around road removal are really just expensive listening sessions to gauge the amount of noise motorists are likely to make. real political leadership would've been to just close it, deal with one week of a few complaints, then enjoy

Incredible cope article on vehicle dependency straight out of the thinking of the 1980s-- written April 1, 2024. ( was this an April fools joke?) parkingtoday.com/article/our-in…

It must be wild to travel 6,000+ miles to Guam, expecting what should be a tropical paradise, only to discover a slightly different version of suburban Florida. It seems to be an interesting crossover between the US military and US road engineering super complexes.

I think the lesson here is unfortunately that reformers should always push for the biggest reform possible because any proposal is ALWAYS going to get watered down. And the hours and hours of adelded meetings/feedback will not really serve any purpose except to delay a decision.

Surprisingly based move by state of Florida: mandating EV charging on private property really just protects the driving market for more auto dependency in the future. It's funny when deregulatory (anti environment?) stuff like this can actually be good jdsupra.com/legalnews/new-…

I am naively baffled by how regularly urban planners are the biggest obstacle to better land use. What if it's because the generation currently in control includes the last public sector workers with good pensions/retirements, incentivizing them to judiciously avoid all risk?

I love to see how "cool" places like Boulder have been lapped by all the other less hyped cities that already got rid of parking mandates (without TDM bloatware or other planner-cope junk policies). It makes 1990s American Planning Association style-planning look very incapable

"Progressive" western towns have to be among the most obnoxious when it comes to housing: 35 low density sprawl units replacing a hay field on the edge of town, literally erasing character: 😴🥱 111 midrise units in the middle of town: end of the world, developer shills, etc
