David Walliams is undoubtedly a children’s writing phenomenon. But his life and work have, at times, caused headaches for his publisher, HarperCollins. So what do you do when your most lucrative author does things that might damage the brand? 🎧 torto.se/41ZhkIl

Which is *the* best cup of tea? The one brought to you in bed? The one with a fry up? The first one after getting back from holiday? What’s the ultimate tea?

If #WorldRefugeeDay has got your children thinking about what it might be like to be forced to flee your home, there are some great books that could help them find out more. Check out our recommendations for older children here: booktrust.org.uk/booklists/b/bo… Pic: Daby Zainab Faidhi

Between 2004-2012 I would watch at least one series of West Wing from start to finish each school holiday (I was a teacher with no kids of my own). Very much loving this thread

Four years ago I wrote a short guide on how to protect your mental health and stay mellow. It’s time to share it again: 1. People will say nasty things to you and about you. Thou shalt give no fucks. None of them pay your bills or do your work for you, so ignore them.

Marriage for a long time was an economic choice that was made by necessity rather than desire. Women in particular are now shifting to getting married if they want to, not because they have to. It is interesting to see which subset of men feel threatened by that.

Dear writers: Send that email. Write that story. Edit mercilessly. Ignore the haters. Stay humble, but be confident. Get paid. Read everything. Write despite your insecurity. Support others. Accept helpful criticism. Celebrate everything. Don't panic. Never quit. You got this.

Also, the assumption that the only reason a woman might object is because she doesn’t think this applies to her 💀 mate, this doesn’t apply and I couldn’t say that loudly or proudly enough

Monthly reminder: Many people have a book in them, but it takes a special kind of freak to leave the Land of Laziness, cross the Plains of Procrastination and Insecurity Mountain, find the Blade of No One Made You Do This, and use it to cut your chest open and yank that book out.

As authors, we talk about writing every day. But one of the vital aspects is often glossed over: the value of time. A decade+ into my dream of being an author, here are my thin pencil shavings of wisdom about Writing Time. Maybe the solidarity will help someone feel seen. 🧵 1/16

I often get asked how I hear about events, exhibitions etc that are on in London. More time it's through socials or friends. So I decided to share the love by creating a thread of events, arts, culture, books and more that you'll want on your radar! Bookmark & follow 🧵👇

The Last Days is out on paperback tomorrow from Penguin Books UK. A lot of people have said some overwhelming things about it. ‘A masterpiece’ from amy may is one of them.

A question for Trad Published authors, were you a first time lucky writer in that your debut was the first book you wrote or did you, like seemingly so many, in fact write several books before hitting on publishing success? Curious 👀 #WritingCommunity

Marisa Bate (@marisajbate) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I now have multiple DMs from brilliant & award-winning authors telling me they won’t write another book because experience with publisher was so awful. like me, many of these people are journalists. We have a high tolerance for bullshit. Which goes to show just how bad things are

Sally Howard ✍️ (@wanderingsal) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Marisa Bate oh dear sorry to hear, I've not had bad experiences, the last pretty lovely, though my advice to hacks is to expect no press help and to do your own as it's usually too late when you realise there is no press capacity at publisher
