We know January might be chaos in school. But it hasn’t happened yet, and there’s not much you can do about it in the next few days anyway, so try and enjoy the rest of the holiday.

The world contains far more information than any single person can learn in their lifetime. The question is not whether you are ignorant, but what you choose to be ignorant about. Few topics are worth your precious time. Choose what you pay attention to with great care.

"A culture of innovation begins with a culture of empathy. Understand what people are afraid of, but also what opportunities are they excited about? When you understand these things about people, you can craft a narrative with them about change versus for them." Sabba Quidwai, EdD 🙌🏼 Designing Schools

Excited to see #QSPA22 #IgniteEvolveInspire conference coming together this week. A great week of collegiality and professional learning to be had May 25-27. Looking forward to it already!

The world is ever-more unpredictable, so controlling everything and everyone is not possible. Agree compelling objectives and clear standards of behavior, then #trust people to fill the space.

Throwing money at ECTs (however warranted rise may be) won’t solve recruitment/retention issues. Enticing people in with more money is a short term approach if people still leave after a few years. That’s where work is needed, because I don’t reckon they leave because of pay.

“In a time of uncertainty, he or she who accepts the fastest, wins” ~ Dr Peter Fuda speaking at #QSPA22 around the importance of agility and psychological safety. Great links to @danhaesler day 1 keynote!

“Frustration is a choice - it is not a leadership behaviour. It is only possible if you don’t take action nor accept the situation as it is. It is a function of playing the victim.” Dr Peter Fuda #QSPA22

“Trust is a tangible commodity - what is the speed of trust? To lead in changing environments, you need to nurture a high trust, high speed, low cost environment” Dr Peter Fuda #QSPA22

To craft a compelling vision, we must operate out of imagination rather than memory. When we start with what we have done before, our thinking is incremental. When we start with our imagination, our thinking can be transformational. In this mode, anything is possible.

100% this! Educational problems are inherently complex, and require complex, context specific solutions rather than simple (or merely complicated), one-size-fits-all answers.

Fantastic to hear Prof Tony Driese speaking diff between simple, complicated, and complex problems. Edu leadership by its nature is complex and needs complex - not merely complicated - solutions; aware of context. oecd.org/education/ceri… #PC2022QLD

What we’re hearing here is a profound community challenge, which requires a community solution. Education is PART of that solution, but cannot be THE sole solution. Intrigued to hear how the new strategic focus will help us lead this community coalition toward solution #PC2022QLD

Great to be at The Centre for Inclusive Education #IEForum22, with Dr Jill Willis taking us back to the Latin roots of assessment - “assessment is about finding worth”; not about setting artificial bars to be quasi sorting functions.
