Some thoughts on biodiversity loss - and why I think farmers are feeling defensive… 🧵 The State of Nature report identified a 13% decline in the average abundance of wildlife in the UK since the 1970s This means fewer plants, birds and invertebrates. 1/14

"Reducing asylum application backlog would make it harder for Rwanda policy to be cost effective, official analysis suggests" This is a statistic so perverse it should be banned for indecency. Deep breath, and let's dive in... Basically the longer an asylum seeker is trapped

Really pleased with myself. Left this ragwort to flower at Magdalen Quarry instead of mowing right up to bramble line. Less for cinnabar more for the flowers which I love but was delighted to see tonnes of caterpillars. Lovely to see loads of ragwort on the cities verges.

I really think this is terribly disruptive & inconsiderate to block a road like this. Don’t the people responsible for causing this know that people have to get to work, get to daycare to pick up kids? Someone needs to be held responsible! We must not tolerate this.

Another pack of serial lies. Balance ? perhaps 50,000 acres of Britain is heading down a wilding route while 23 million acres is farmed. Not much of a balance. Around a 5th of the total just can't produce much and is held in failing commercial thrall only by subsidies.

Very pleased to have been part of this work party cutting and raking rank vegetation to benefit rare Fen Violet introduced some years ago.

Great-water Parsnip flourishing on the the edge of a pond at a site next to cutteslowe park. Nationally rare and red listed. Absolutely gorgeous.

Last autumn discovered 15 fruiting heads of Nat. Red listed Round-flowered Rush Juncus compressus in this old wet seepage on a bank in Cuttelowe Park Oxford. But Hard Rush Juncus inflexus & sedges becoming dominant because big machinery can't cut/collect here without sinking. 1/2

Lots of great work by the city’s volunteers and ODS countryside team sees dunstan park really starting to play its part in the city’s biodiversity. More to be done but it’s going the right way. Lots of work to rewet the vital fen habitat in the park.

Farage says “Britain is broken” Well yes. That’s because a bunch of absolute shysters whipped up fear and racism in a country battered by austerity, aggressively silenced opposition and lied their arses off to impose a Brexit that promised control but inevitably delivered chaos.
