Can someone tell me why I’m spending my evenings after work studying for expensive MRCP exams?

It seems like having MRCP, or indeed having any formal medical training is completely unnecessary to perform complex procedures like UGIB endoscopy.

The fundamental problem I have with this is that AHPs of various backgrounds increasingly want to do what Drs do, but without:

- Work required to enter medical school
- Huge costs of med school
- Upheaval of rotational training
- Stress & cost of postgraduate exams

If this is genuinely what was said at AoMRC meeting on PAs (and I have no reason to doubt it), then this is sensational.
Active political choice to constrain numbers of training posts for doctors (future consultants/GPs) and instead put the money into more PAs with wider scope.

And you certainly can’t then accuse doctors of being bullies for questioning this iniquitous direction!

The GMC was founded to protect patients from non-drs practising medicine. Now it is to regulate non-drs practising medicine to provide the public with confidence that it is safe. Can anyone make this make sense?
