A quick warmup this morning, with plenty of clouds and only a stray shower possible during the day. Back to GMV this morning!

Drought conditions intensifying across the area due to a lack of substantial rainfall during the second half of this summer.

Plan for some fog this morning, and more toasty afternoon temperatures. Rain is headed our way after today!

A sloppy start to Thursday, but most of the rain is moving through early this morning. The rest of the day will be hit or miss showers, plus a few storms in the afternoon.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon & evening, some of which may produce heavy rain that may result in localized flash flooding, especially where this storms pass repeatedly over the same locations.

It took a while, but we finally have Hurricane Imelda! No impacts to our forecast after today.

Lynchburg and Danville hit 46 degrees this morning! That's the first time since June we saw those temperatures! More of this chill each morning to wrap the week.

Melissa has just become a category 5 hurricane! Jamaica is getting slammed over the next 48 hours.

Hurricane Melissa is a powerful category 5 hurricane this morning with winds of 175 mph. It will make landfall in Jamaica later this morning.

#Hurricane #Melissa's pressure has dropped to 892 mb. That's tied with the Florida Keys Hurricane of 1935 for the 3rd lowest pressure for an Atlantic hurricane on record. Only Wilma (2005) - 882 mb and Gilbert (1988) - 888 mb have been lower. Lower pressure = stronger hurricane.

Melissa is up to 185mph! It could be one of the strongest storms on record to make landfall at this strength.
