We don't get to choose whether or not our views or actions are harmful. We can't simply declare them as such. We listen to other people and learn how our actions and words impact them and update the way we interact based on our intended outcomes and the feedback we receive.

One of my big struggles with undiagnosed ADHD was knowing I had a high capacity for achievement, but little evidence of success. Teachers could see it too, with unhelpful notes about not reaching my potential. It always felt like I should be doing more than I was able.

Five years ago, I spoke at a rally in because transgender students were being attacked. Me with this "I'm the scary transgender person the media warned you about" sign went viral. I wasn't scary at all. I was just a 10 year old being herself.
