Playing with the livelihood of #ImmigrantWorkers is nothing new in politics, even if they were labeled essential during a pandemic. It is unacceptable that @Rendon63rd hasn't sent #SB62 to the Senate for a final vote to provide basic work place protections for garment workers.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: #SB62 is currently being held up & has not been sent to CA Senate for a crucial vote. It would be an total FAILURE of Speaker @Rendon63rd & CA Assembly Democrats to abandon garment workers in sweatshop conditions. Release #GarmentWorkerProtetionAct to the Senate NOW!

Please join me in calling on Governor Gavin Newsom to sign #SB62, the Garment Worker Protection Act, into law so that we can create a better future for the fashion industry while also growing California's economy. calmatters.org/commentary/202…

A 2016 investigation found violations in 85% of the Los Angeles garment shops it looked into. Now, a bill to protect California’s low-paid garment workers is headed to Gov. Newsom’s desk. “There is some kind of a modern slavery goin' on,” one worker told AnnaWerner.

Reforming the garment industry is also a climate issue. "Underpaying garment workers not only costs their communities and taxpayers hard-earned resources, it enables the fashion industry to make far more items than consumers need and the planet can endure." #SB62

Dana Thomas: "Like garment workers offshore, the undeclared workers earn no overtime, have no health benefits, and often labor in unsafe conditions. Yet the clothes they produce are still allowed to bear the 'Made in the USA' label." We need #SB62! latimes.com/opinion/story/…

Why must Gavin Newsom sign #SB62 into law? Two-thirds of LA's 43 thousand garment workers are not paid the minimum wage. Many of them are paid $3 an hour. Let that sink in … $3 an hour. No benefits. This is flat-out wrong. This is exploitation. #GarmentWorkerProtectionAct

I’m truly devastated that Gavin Newsom vetoed the most important union organizing bill of the year. Denying Farmworkers the right to organize and join a union in the same manner we allow all public sector workers in CA to do so is abhorrent. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month. 👀

Garment workers have been leading the anti-sweatshop fight in Los Angeles for years! It's incredible to see all of their hard work, & the support of so many biz & allies, recognized by the passage of #sb62 into law!!

One week ago, we got the news that California will no longer be the sweatshop capital of America! "Some retailers who tout their 'Made in the USA' tags as evidence of good work ethics are known to use the labor of underpaid garment workers in Los Angeles." teenvogue.com/story/californ…

#CALeg & Governor Gavin Newsom we're calling on YOU to fund unemployment benefits for excluded immigrant workers & create a #SafetyNet4All in the #CABudget this year! Even short-term job losses can be catastrophic for CA workers and NO worker should be excluded. Toni G. Atkins @Rendon63rd

Levi's® Hey $LEVI investors, don't give your $ to a brand that doesn’t care abt the workers who make their clothes. It’s no secret that @Levis workers in Bangladesh + Pakistan suffer daily, battling injuries, exhaustion + low pay. Ask Levi’s to #SignTheAccord! tinyurl.com/mzh225ks
