A petition by NIMBYs in 1887 against the Eiffel Tower sounds a lot like contemporary arguments against projects. Had opponents succeeded, nobody today would realize what had been lost. The cost of NIMBYism is in what is not built.

The first-ever Walt Disney Audio-Animatronics figure will be a part of “Walt Disney – A Magical Life,” a new show debuting at Disneyland Park in 2025. Wow.

Remembering the guy who made a chicken sandwich truly from scratch (including growing the wheat for the bread etc) and found it took 140 hours of labor over six months

A customer reached out asking for video tutorials. We obviously have a Lindy handling this, and I was delighted to see that she sent a video. But then I remembered we don't have a video tutorial and realized Lindy is literally fucking rickrolling our customers.

A northbound Acela approaches Baltimore Penn Station through a tangle of rail lines: the CSX north-south East Coast main from left to right on the bridge, the light rail and its North Ave station (and maintenance facility) beyond that, and Baltimore Streetcar Museum on the right.

You know what aren't scarce in the United States? Cars. You know why cars aren't scarce? Because we build 16 million of them per year. You know how many homes we build per year? About 1.4 million. Don't tell me the United States is a country. We're a car company.

Backstory is a design tool, just like character preparation for an actor. It makes for a rich believable performance, but, like character prep…it’s for the artist. The audience sees the result. Folks love Venice, Italy. Almost no one knows the backstory of how it got that way.

Joe Rohde (@joe_rohde) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Virtually every destination on earth demonstrates that backstory is not guest facing . Paris. Bali. Tulum. Kyoto. Great destinations! How many people can recite four sentences of backstory as to how they got that way? Only historians…the fanboys of reality…know these things.

🚀 Big news! Socket just raised a $40M Series B round to combat next-gen software supply chain security attacks and defend open source. The round was led by Abstract, with Elad Gil, a16z, and top angels. We have big plans for the $$$ – see thread ⬇️ 🧵 1/10

JS security is a mess so I’m excited to see Feross and Socket take on the challenge of making all of our apps more secure!

Hard to overstate just how rapid the changes in US party coalitions have been. The Democrats are now the party of high education *and* high income voters. Just 12 years ago, the inverse was true. On these terms, the Trump coalition was closer to Obama 2008 than the Harris one!
