A fireball that soared over Ontario, Canada, early on Saturday was the sixth object to be detected in space before it struck Earth, the European Space Agency said. Observers spotted it across Toronto’s skyline and in the northeastern U.S. nyti.ms/3EO22hv

Alright #geology twitter - check out this plagioclase feldspar (labradorite-andesine core, andesine-oligoclase rim) & then an overgrowth of sanidine. Any ideas on the strange texture/intergrowth in the and-olig rim. We suspect quenching but have never seen this before!

Did you know that one of the most Moonlike places in the world is in Canada? Right now, NASA & Canadian Space Agency astronauts that will head to the Moon for the first time since the Apollo program are training w/Gordon Oz Osinski for their journey in Kamestastin Crater, Labrador. (1/n)

This isn't the first time astronauts have headed up to Labrador for training—if you want to learn more about what it's like & how they get up there, check out this great discussion w/Dr. Cass Marion & Joshua Kutryk about their 2021 expedition: (5/n) youtube.com/watch?v=dvjSoC…

This is Banting Crater, a 6.4 km diameter simple crater on the Moon. What would it be like stand at the bottom? Spot the tiny people on the floor of Meteor (Barringer) Crater (1.2 km diam), Arizona, for a good perspective! #impactcraters #planetaryscience
