Been thinking about the landscape costume of Elector Johann Geog I of Saxony. It was a Christmas gift from Johann's mother in 1611 and is now in Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. The ensemble is embroidered with views of Dresden and the river Elbe, complete with stone bridges and sea monsters

It's #ShoesdayTuesday and we've these exquisite shoes, decorated with beadwork, to share with you. Worn sometime around 1917, possibly as part of a wedding ensemble, they're labelled as having been made in Vienna, which had a long tradition of making high quality footwear.

Forever and always thinking about one of the craziest pieces of surviving 17th-century embroidery - an embroidered egg. An embroidered!! Egg!! From more than 350 years ago! Full of needle holes and chenille thread! Have you ever seen anything more insane because I really HAVE NOT

Delighted to have my article featured in the current issue of Selvedge Magazine! The article looks at the makers and menders of clothing, drawing attention to 'sustainable' acts of consuming.

What a morning she has had. Was it one too many dull visits to Mama’s friends or a traipse around the milliner’s that lasted a little too long? Dragging her shawl behind her she looks ready to sink into a chair & curl up with a novel. #1820s ensemble #thekyotocostumeinstitute
